A chemical -free alternative for Laundry, Organic Gardening and Natural Cleaning

Our Soapnut Shells come from the 'Soap Nut Tree', (Sapindus Mukrossi), grown by our supplier in India under Fair Trade conditions. Soapnuts are not actually a nut but a hard berry in an outer case. After harvesting in October the Soapnuts are cracked, the inedible berry discarded and the amber-coloured shells containing saponin, a natural detergent, are dried and packed into cotton bags.

Place 6-8 Soapnut Shells in the free cotton laundry bag supplied and add to the washing machine with laundry instead of conventional detergent. Clothes and household linens washed in Soapnut Shells come out naturally soft, clean and fresh and you'll find it unnecessary to add fabric softener or bleach.
After washing and drying, clothes will be completely odourless, but most customers like to add a few drops of essential oil in the fabric softener compartment of the washing machine for natural fragrance. Our delightful French Country Lavender is extremely popular.

After use, simply add the Soapnut Shells to the compost heap or your organic recycling collection. You can also simmer the spent shells in boiling water for 5 minutes or so, then cool and strain to use for hand-washing delicates or as an all-purpose general surface cleaner or washing-up liquid. Use in a spray bottle to attack greenfly and aphids iin the garden or add a little white vinegar for a super-effective window/glass cleaner.
