This mascara is terrific. I have not been able to use conventional mascara since my allergy to parabens was identified in 1993. It's really great to use a proper mascara again" Reading the ingredients list on a mascara container can be really scary! If you react badly to mascara with itchy or watery eyes, redness or swelling, you may be allergic to some of the chemicals and preservatives that are used in its manufacture. The most common culprits for allergic reactions are CI+ Me Isothiazoline, Quaternium-15, Thimerasol and Parabens, synthetic CoPolymers sych as PVP and Petroleum-based chemicals used as drying agents. There is now a small number of organic mascaras on the market, but our testers were unimpressed with their performance and some were allergic to their plant-based ingredients so we felt unable to recommend them as an Allergy BestBuy. Our testers' mascara of choice is Suncoat Natural Mascara that is uniquely formulated with sugar-based biopolymer as a binder rather than synthetic chemicals such as PVP (polyvinyl pyrolidone). This is a superior alternative for sensitive eyes. Suncoat Natural Mascara uses natural mineral pigments for colour rather than FD&C dyes and is fragrance free and paraben free. Although not waterproof it has great wearability, resists smudging and washes off easily with regular cleanser and water.

 | | This mascara is terrific. I have had no allergic reaction at all, eyes and eyelids are entirely comfortable. I have been using Suncoat Natural mascara on a daily basis and on workdays might be wearing it for as long as 16 hours. I have not been able to use conventional mascaras since my allergy to parabens was identified in 1993. In the last couple of years I have discovered a couple of organic mascaras which were perfectly comfortable, but didn't perform well as mascara. The Suncoat mascara on the other hand is a real mascara and does the job properly. It has the correct 'gloopy' consistency so that it sticks to your lashes and lets you build up thickness with multiple coats for the glamour look if you want to. Most importantly, it doesn't slide off - the organic mascaras I have tried before always ended up under my eyes by lunchtime, giving me that unattractive 'panda eyes' look. But Suncoat lasts all day, which is wonderful, with no smudging whatsoever. No problems with removing it at the end of the day - one application with my usual makeup remover is all that's needed. I shall certainly be buying Suncoat again when this one runs out - it's really great to be able to use a proper mascara again Gill Ray, Brentford | |
 | | I think this is a great product and I experienced no irritation at all, even after wearing it for a whole day (something I cannot do with any other brand). I will definitely use it and would certainly recommend it to other sensitive friends. Melanie Jervis, Worcester Park | |
 | | Good product, easy to use and no reaction. It didn't hurt me at all Johanna Lueders, London | |
 | | My usual allergic response to normal mascara is like hayfever. Itchy eyes and a stringy substance in the eyelids. Since switching to Suncoat, after a two week period, those severe allergic responses were nil. As the two week period progressed I became aware of less eye irritations than normal throughout the day.Suncoat gives a nice strong defined look and compares well with leading brands for the look it gives. It feels a little more sticky on application, however once applied it lasted all day pretty well. My sister also has sensitivity to loads of mascara brands so I shall be recommending it to her.
