If you’re looking for a well-made, efficient dehumidifier that is lightweight, quiet and inexpensive to run then go for the DD8L from Meaco.

It’s what’s known as a dessicant dehumidifier and dries the air using absorption technology. This means that it doesn’t have a compressor or cooling coils, making it lighter, quieter and more energy efficient than a traditional dehumidifier. Customers are always astonished just how much water it collects and how much warmer it makes the room feel.

Many health professionals recommended using a dehumidifier in homes where there is asthma or respiratory problems as it will reduce moisture levels, reduce dustmite populations, prevent mould and alleviate chest conditions brought on by damp air.

Dustmites flourish where the relative humidity is more than 50% and the electronic humidistat on the DD8L can be set to keep the RH below this level to help your asthma, eczema or breathing. Once 50% RH has been achieved, the dehumidifier goes into fan-only mode to circulate the air over the relative humidity sensor so it knows when to start dehumidifying again.

The Meaco DD8L will also reduce your heating bills by warming the air by 10-12°C as it dries, will dry your laundry more cheaply than a tumble drier and protect furniture and paintings.

The DD8L has an anti-bacterial silver nano filter and a built-in ioniser that kill bacteria and mould spores on contact and reduce dustmite activity. So the warmed air that leaves the dehumidifier is purified and the water de-ionised. (You can use the water in your steam iron or pour it away).
