On holiday in Bulgaria I'd taken one of three daily pills for my diabetes first thing in the morning , but forgot to take my afternoon one. It was boiling hot and I woke up on the beach badly dehydrated. I managed to get up and stumbled around in a haze trying to get back to the hotel. I vaguely remember people saying I was drunk before I passed out on a path leading from the beach. The police were called and couldn't wake me, but saw my medical tag and called paramedics. They gave me a shot of insulin and I came round in a hospital. But had it not been for the tag, I could have been a goner.
