Wow! I'm 33 and have been severely allergic to milk nuts fish and seafood for the whole of my life, and to eggs for 28 years. This is the book I should have written if only I had this lady's talent. Gorgeous pictures, lovely recipes, and a vast introductory section with refreshing, up to date practical advice on how to live with allergies. Absolutely no crystal hugging "aura field" nonsense. Absolutely no hint of "diets" and "find your intolerances" rubbish. Indispensible for those with real food problems and a bit of eye opener for those who need to know, including teachers nurses and professionals who deal with children everyday. Buy it for your local school, yourself, and everyone you know who is remotely affected by food allergy. Then bake the allergic people a chocolate cake and watch them cry with joy because they've never been able to eat one before . Fiona Anderson, London

Alice Sherwood was thrown into the bewildering world of food allergies when her son Archie turned blue and stopped breathing after eating pastry. Frustrated by the allergy-free recipes on offer, she got to work in her kitchen to devise food you would want to eat rather than food you had to eat. The result is the Allergy-Free Cookbook, with allergen-free versions of over 100 delicious recipes, so you can eliminate any of the four major allergens: egg, gluten, dairy and nuts - all delicious enough to serve to allergic and non-allergic alike.
With over 100 step-by-step recipes, all beautifully illustrated, Alice shows you how to make familiar favourites from shepherd's pie to chocolate chip cookies to show-stopping treats, brunches and lunches, children's party specials and elegant dinner party dishes.
There are tips on ingredients to beware of and techniques for cooking with unfamiliar ingredients such as gluten-free flours and dairy-free products. Store cupboard staples are given for each major food allergy as well as 'food heroes' and substitutes for problem ingredients. The resources pages list useful allergy-free food brands and specialist suppliers.
Allergy-Free Cookbook has been featured in The Mail on Sunday YOU magazine, 'The Week', BBC Good Food, Sainsbury's Magazine, Saturday Express magazine, The Daily Telegraph Weekend, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue.
